Mockitecture: Paintings 2011-2014
May 2015: I walk through cities photographing buildings and streets. My viewer frames the fenestration patterns , reflective facades, twisting spires, cantilevering , jutting balconies, planted roof gardens, water towers, and odd shapes of today's urban architecture.
In the paintings, which I thought of as "Mockitecture" , I tried to create an ambiguous architectural space which flips back and forth as you look at it. The multiple perspectives relate to my speculation about what a building's form might hide or reveal about its design, and the size, shape, use and purpose of the interior spaces. Some of the titles were inspired by a trip to China where I toured historic buildings with lovely poetic names set near towering skyscrapers.
