Geometry, pattern, color, line, and perspective have always fascinated me.
In these paintings I am imagining the layers of infrastructure of a building or a city...the roads, side walks, utilities, looking up, looking down,
Photos below are installation shots of the paintings from " Urban Studies & City Blocks ," This solor exhibition, summer 2015, at Gensler- New York, included City Blocks, my first sculptures
Mockitecture: Paintings 2011-2015
I walk through cities photographing buildings and streets. My viewer frames the fenestration patterns , reflective facades, twisting spires, cantilevering , jutting balconies, planted roof gardens, water towers, and odd shapes of today's urban architecture.
In the paintings, which I thought of as "Mockitecture" , I tried to create an ambiguous architectural space which flips back and forth as you look at it. The multiple perspectives relate to my speculation about what a building's form might hide or reveal about its design, and the size, shape, use and purpose of the interior spaces. Some of the titles were inspired by a trip to China where I toured historic buildings with lovely poetic names.
