2016 INSTALLATIONS contact
available as temporary gallery installations or for commission as permanent works . dimensions variable.
My paintings always had a dimensional quality, but I did not make freestanding installations or sculptures before 2015. City Blocks, my first sculptures, were made of small painted wooden blocks. After exhibiting them with my Urban studies paintings at Gensler architects in NYC, i decided to continue developing my sculpture. I decided then that working small with common inexpensive materials would enable me to move through ideas easily, while developing my skills and aesthetic preferences. In the next group of sculptures I decided to work with larger cardboard boxes which I could freely arrange and rearrange , photographing all the variations. By making color one of the structural elements I am able to relate them to some of the geometric themes I explored in past paintings and wall constructions.I find it very exciting to be revisiting my past paintings with the focus of sculpture.
After working with cardboard I made installations and freestanding sculptures of painted wooden forms .
A commission is in progress to recreate one of the Froebel's Gifts sculptures into a 16' high painted aluminum sculpture.
